ASKEWVILLE – Bethel Christian Academy rolled to conference victory number one Friday.

The Lady Eagles defeated visiting Calvary Baptist Church School 49-13 to secure their first league victory and their eleventh in 13 starts.

Kelsie Conner recorded her second double-double of the season, leading Bethel with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Elizabeth Farmer knocked in 15 points and added three assists and two steals.

Alison Nichols led Calvary with five points.

The Lady Eagles, playing without starting center Jessica Howerton for the second straight game, got off to a quick start, scoring the first 13 points of the game.

Kristen Adams scored four early points and then – with Bethel leading by seven – Conner, Alyssa Fairless and Farmer scored consecutive buckets to make it 13-0 before Megan Spencer scored for Calvary.

Conner had two buckets and Charitee Dunlow added one of her own to give Bethel a commanding 19-2 lead after one quarter.

Lauren Ingle scored the first hoop of the second period to close the gap to 19-4, but it was their only hoop of the quarter.

Farmer, meanwhile, had six of her points in the second period while Conner added four. Dunlow and Fairless scored as well, leaving Bethel with a comfortable 33-4 halftime edge.

Conner opened the third quarter with a free throw before Fairless added a basket that made it 36-4.

Nichols then scored her first hoop of the night and added a free throw to close the gap to 36-7. Dunlow, however, scored the final bucket of the quarter as she gave Bethel a 38-7 lead heading into the final period.

Calvary scored the first four points of the fourth quarter on hoops by Nichols and Haylee Willis as they closed within 38-11.

Fairless then added a hoop before Rachel Grubbs scored again for Calvary to make it 40-13.

The Lady Eagles then scored the final nine points to secure the victory.

In addition to those in double figures, the Lady Eagles got six from Fairless who also led the team with 14 rebounds. Adams had four points to go with a quartet of steals and Dunlow did the same.

The Lady Eagles (11-2) will be off until January 4 when they travel to Ahoskie Christian School.
