AHOSKIE – The Ridgecroft School girl’s basketball team closed out the 2016 portion of their schedule here Monday night picking up their 10th win of the season, 58-32, over The Albemarle School.

It was also their fourth win in a row in Tarheel Independent Conference play.

Ruthie Daniels had 14 points to lead the Lady Rams’ scoring while teammate Brooke Rose added a dozen more.   Alexis Smith of Albemarle also had 14.

Defense keyed Ridgecroft’s transition game, and the Rams raced to a 33-11 lead at halftime thanks to fast-break layups.  Scoring the first five points of the third quarter, it was 38-12, Rams, before Albemarle got their first points of the second half. Kaitlyn Riddick helped key an 11-3 run for the Lady Colts, who reduced their deficit to 16 points, 41-25, headed to the fourth and final quarter.

Reagan King, mostly quiet in the first half, helped key a fourth quarter run for Ridgecroft – scoring six of her total eight points in that frame.  Meanwhile, Daniels was scoring in the paint and Grace Vaughan got one to drop after banking it in and helped push the Ram lead back up to 20 at 47-27.   That’s when King knocked in a couple of foul shots and a lay-up that made it 51-28.  The Colts got only a three-pointer and a free throw the rest of the way as they were taken down by 26 points by the first-place Rams.

Ridgecroft (10-2, 4-0, TIC) is off now for a three-week break entering the holidays and will resume play Jan. 3 at Lawrence.
