Lady Rams suffer setbacks at Alice Cobb Tournament

WILSON – Ridgecroft School’s tennis team suffered a pair of setbacks on Sept. 16-17 during the Alice Cobb Tournament (benefitting the Heart Fund) held at Barton University.
In its opening match, the Lady Rams scored only two wins in singles play en route to a 7-2 loss vs. Kerr Vance Academy.
Top-seeded Taylor Jenkins defeated Savannah Barnes (2-6, 6-0, 10-6) and #2 Mary Grace Gilliam beat Holly Sneed in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to highlight Ridgecroft’s scoring.
On Saturday, Ridgecroft faced two-time defending NCISAA state champion Wayne Country Day School and fell, 7-2.
Jenkins again came through at the number one seed as she defeated Ally Willmon (2-6, 6-1, 10-7). Ridgecroft’s doubles duo of Jenkins and Gilliam topped Willmon and Eliza Eagles (9-7).
Last week, Ridgecroft won four of the six singles matches en route to defeating Northeast Academy, 5-4.
The top two seeds for Northeast won their singles matches as #1 Carly Stephenson defeated Jenkins (6-4, 6-2) while #2 Tracy Clark rallied to beat Gilliam (4-6, 6-3, 10-3).
Ridgecroft swept the remaining singles matches as #3 Lauren Harrell claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jessie Martin; #4 Annie Dilustro defeated Savannah Revelle (6-3, 6-1); #5 Holly Robertson won 6-0, 6-1 over Cassie Revelle; and #6 Alex Evans captured a 6-3, 6-1 decision against Emily Jones.
Northeast rallied in doubles action as the top-seeded duo of Stephenson and Martin edged Jenkins/Gilliam 8-6; while the second seeded duo of Clark and S. Revelle hammered out an 8-1 victory over Dilustro/Claire Revelle.
Ridgecroft scored the match-winner in the #3 doubles where Harrell/Evans blanked C.Revelle/Jones 8-0.
