In the first set, Ridgecroft jumped out to an 8-1 lead – their biggest of the contest. Reagan King and Mackenzie Brown led the Lady Rams as they went on to win the first set by 11, 25-14, and take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Terra Ceia opened things at 2-0 in the second set, but Ridgecroft seized the momentum with eight unanswered points to take an 8-2 lead. The Rams’ biggest lead was by a dozen – 21-9 – thanks to middle-hitter Tracy Hughes and Sydney Lane on the outside. The Lady Knights fought back, however, getting within six points at 23-17, but Ridgecroft was able to secure the final two points it needed to clinch the win, 25-17, and take a 2-0 lead into the third set.

A close one throughout, both teams were knotted 7-7 and the game produced more ties before Ridgecroft took command with a Terra Ceia error and got a 21-20 lead. Kathryn Outlaw and Christina Vaughan led the charge in the last set as Ridgecroft scored the final four points of the set, taking it by five, 25-20, and closing out the match in three straight games.

“The girls played well,” said Ridgecroft coach Susan Oliver. “They attacked the ball and set up each other very well. They played as a team.”

The win upped Ridgecroft’s record to 3-1 overall and gave them a 1-0 mark to open conference play. The Lady Rams are on the road today (Thursday) at Hobgood in a match with a 4 p.m. start.

BETHEL WINS

ASKEWVILLE – Bethel Assembly Christian Academy notched its first win of the season here Monday with a 3-0 victory over New Life, 25-12, 25-16, and 25-15. Makayla Ball had three kills, while Kaylee Minton added three digs.

The Lady Eagles also won the junior varsity contest in straight sets, 25-7 and 25-15.

“The girls played as a team,” said BACA coach Tammy Harrell. “I’m very proud of my girls.”

The win was a bounce-back for Bethel, who fell in their home opener to TIC member, Northeast Academy, in four sets: 19-25, 14-25, 25-21, and 22-25. Bethel did win the jayvee match, however, 25-10 and 25-8 over Northeast.
