Rams fall in tennis

ROCKY MOUNT – Ridgecroft School suffered a 7-2 setback at the hands of Faith Christian here last week.

The Lady Rams managed one victory in singles action and another in doubles action, but came up short and dropped to 1-2 for the tennis season.

Ridgecroft’s Hennie Larabee scored the singles victory as she topped Sophie Cheatham by counts of 6-4 and 6-2.

The doubles win came at the number two seed where Larabee and Cloe Dunn scored an 8-2 victory over Lauren Phillips and Megan Catt.

Amber Bracy put up a tough fight at number five doubles before falling to Alex Cheney 6-1 and 7-5.

Shelby Dunn topped Katie Futrell in the top-seeded matchup by counts of 6-1 and 6-2 while second seeded Theresa Hall defeated Miller Bryant 6-1 and 6-0.

Catherine Cherry defeated Roxie Daniels in the number three matchup by a count of 6-4 and 6-1 while Samantha Gurganus won the number four contest against McKenzie Quattlebaum 6-2 and 6-0.

Faith Christian won the number one doubles matchup when Dunn and Ashley Knight edged Bryant and Futrell 9-7. They also took the number three doubles matchup when Gurganus and Caroline Matthews defeated Daniels and Quattlebaum 8-3.
