Ridgecroft School added two more victories to their win total in the past several days.

The Lady Rams’ softball team downed Pungo Christian Academy 15-4 and blanked arch rival Lawrence Academy 10-0 to improve to 4-1 for the season and 2-1 in the Tarheel Independent Conference.

Against PCA, the Lady Rams got a stellar performance from senior hurler Mary Kate Morris. She pitched six innings and struck out eight as well as providing solid bunt defense.

Offensively, Morris went 3-for-4 with two singles and a triple.

Sara Hackney also had an excellent day at the plate for Ridgecroft, going 3-for-5 while Emily Grace and Erin Cooke each were 2-for-4 during the afternoon.

Laurel Boone checked in at 1-for-1 for the Lady Rams while Lauren Colson was 1-for-2.

“This was our best hitting game so far this year,” Ridgecroft skipper Nichole Hughes said. “We are really seeing the ball well. I am so proud of the girls and how much we have improved in just a short amount of time.”

On Friday, the Lady Rams helped Hughes celebrate her birthday with a huge conference win over rival Lawrence Academy.

Morris was again strong on the mound, going five innings and striking out a dozen Warriors. Offensively, she was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Hackney again recorded three hits, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Cooke, Colson and Taylor McKeel had one hit each.

“We are really working well together and I think it is showing,” Hughes said. “It is not a one-man show; everyone has stepped up to the plate and is getting the job done.

“Our goal is to put the bat on the ball and put it in play to make things happen,” she added. “I think it is working well.”
