Bethel eases past Pungo

AHOSKIE – In first round action of the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament Monday evening, the Lady Eagles of Bethel came out victorious over the Lady Raiders of Pungo Academy by a 37-30 score.

Bethel took an early 6-0 lead and never looked back, opening a commanding 20-9 lead by halftime which ended with a three pointer by Pungo’s Melanie Harris as the buzzer sounded.

The third quarter saw the teams trading baskets with Bethel widening the score by 29-16 as the quarter came to a close.  The fourth quarter saw the Lady Raiders mount a comeback only to end up short.

Bethel’s Kelsie Conner helped stifle the comeback by scoring five of her game high 17 points in the closing eight minutes.

The Lady Eagles fell in Tuesday night’s semifinal and will move on to the Consolation game Thursday night at Lawrence Academy.
