Bethel boys win opener

BELHAVEN – Bethel Christian Academy rolled to a season-opening win here Thursday night.

The Eagles topped Pungo Christian Academy 66-47 in a non-conference basketball game.

Shane Tripp paced the Eagles with a double-double during the contest, scoring 21 points and tallying 10 rebounds. He added seven steals and four assists.

Kyle Freeman also had a stellar offensive night, scoring 19 points and pulling down seven offensive boards. He added a block, eight steals and three assists.

Daniel Feher was also in double digits for Bethel as he had 12 points during the evening. He added nine boards and a steal.

Kevin Johnson added seven points for the Eagles to go with three rebounds, three steals and three assists while Marky Palmer had four points, three boards and a steal.

Michael Miller checked in with three points during the contest.

Bethel led 20-13 after one quarter and pushed that advantage to 33-22 by the intermission. Bethel led 53-30 at the end of the third quarter.

The two teams will meet in a rematch Monday night when they square off at Ridgecroft School in the opening round of the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament.
