Ridgecroft falls at Northeastern

ELIZABETH CITY – Ridgecroft suffered just its third defeat of the season here last week.

The Lady Rams dropped an 8-1 tennis decision to Northeastern High School.

The only win for Ridgecroft came at the top where Caroline Bowman knocked off Miriam Cooper 8-0.

The next-closes matchup came at number four and number five for Ridgecroft, where both Miller Bryant and Roxie Daniels suffered an 8-5 setback. Bryant fell to Ali Pfeiffer while Daniels lost to Sarah Harris.

Leigh Ann Pfeiffer won the second-seeded battle when she defeated Ridgecroft’s Alex Riddick 8-3 while Katy Murray topped Katie Futrell 8-4 at number three. Sixth-seeded Adrian Wood defeated Amber Bracy 8-3.

In doubles action, Cooper and L. Pfeiffer secured an 8-6 win over Bowman and Riddick. Murray and A. Pfeiffer defeated Futrell and Bryant 8-5.

In the final matchup Wood and Sarah Scott topped Daniels and Bracy 8-1.

“This was a good match,” Ridgecroft Tennis Coach Elton Winslow said. “We are two evenly matched teams and the final score was indicative of the closeness of the match.

“In six of the eight matches we lost, we were ahead at one time,” he said.

Ridgecroft dropped to 7-3 with the loss.
