APD arrests Woodland man on pot charges

AHOSKIE – A Woodland man was arrested here Dec. 29 for felony possession of illegal drugs.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said that 27-year-old Akeem O’Ljwan Artis of 188 Indian Trail, Arrowhead Mobile Home Park, was placed under arrest. Artis stands charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Artis was given a $3,000 secured bond and a Jan. 5 court date.

Fitzhugh said the arrest was made at 1:39 a.m. at Cypress Court (Apt #48) on Everett Street. APD Officer Tyler Burden made the arrest, assisted by APD Sgt. Jeffery Woodard.

Both officers were commended by Chief Fitzhugh for their ability to make the arrest without incident.
