AHOSKIE – A local woman stands charged with six felonies after allegedly stealing money from her employer.

Taylor Alexandra Joyner, 25, of 114 Bow Lane, Ahoskie, was arrested Sept. 26 following an investigation conducted by both her employer and the Ahoskie Police Department.

According to the owner of Ahoskie Market, located on Academy Street, Joyner was employed as a clerk.

“It was reported to us on Sept. 6 after the store’s management had conducted an investigation that showed store proceeds were apparently taken by one of their employees,” said Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh. “The evidence the store management discovered during their investigation was turned over to my officers.”

Fitzhugh added that APD Detective Justin Farmer conducted an investigation based on that evidence. Farmer’s conclusion was the same as the store’s findings, that an unspecified amount of money had been taken over a period of several months.

“An interview was conducted with the alleged suspect,” Fitzhugh said. “From that point, based on our own investigation and based on the evidence shared by the store’s management, arrest warrants were drawn for Ms. Joyner.”

She was formally charged with six felony counts of larceny by employee and was taken into custody at her residence by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office.

Joyner was detained under a $10,000 secured bond and made her initial court appearance on the same day of her arrest.
