Gates County duo named to All-State Team

GATESVILLE – Gates County High School’s Gage Riddick and Ron Olsen were named to the All-State Baseball Team for the 2017 season.

The team has made history with two players qualifying for the elite designation. Both Riddick and Olsen will be returning to Coach Jacob Harrell’s squad next season.

Riddick, a rising senior, posted a .443 batting average, and a .57l on base percentage. For the season, Riddick had 19 stolen bases, five doubles, two triples, and a pair of homeruns.

Olsen, a rising junior, finished the season with a .444 batting average, and a .545 on base percentage. He had 18 stolen bases, seven doubles, one triple and three homeruns.

Coach Harrell stated, “Gage and Ron have both played a huge part in our success over the last two years. They have been great both offensively and defensively, but maybe most important of all, on the mound.”

Harrell, in his second year as GCHS Head Coach, talked about the impressive stats the boys racked up for the season and how excited he is to have both returning for next year’s run. The Coach was also quick to mention the emphasis the team has on academics and character as well as skills.

“I am extremely proud of these two young men,” the Coach added. “They have gone about it the right way. They took care of business not just on the field, but in the classroom, and in the community.
