AHOSKIE – A proposed project to widen US 13 and NC 11 between Winton and Ahoskie will first go before the public for their information and feedback.

The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on June 9 in Ahoskie regarding a proposed project to improve N.C. 11 and U.S. 13 in Hertford County from just south of the intersection of N.C. 11 and N.C. 561, north to the intersection of U.S. 13 and U.S. 158/N.C. 45 at Winton.

The hearing will take place at Hertford County High School, beginning with an open house from 4 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a formal presentation at 7 p.m. The opportunity to submit written comments and ask questions will be provided throughout the meeting. The presentation and comments received will be recorded and included in the alternative selection process.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety along this corridor. The accident rate along this stretch of N.C. 11 and U.S. 13 is higher than the statewide average. An Environmental Assessment for this project was approved in October 2013 including four possible design alternatives for the improvement project, all of which will be presented to the public at the hearing for review and comment.

NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the four proposed alternatives during the open house portion of the meeting. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the open house hours.

The formal presentation will include an explanation of the location and design of each proposed alternative, as well as information regarding requirements and procedures that will be part of the project.

Maps showing the location and design of the project and a copy of the approved Environmental Assessment are available for public review at the following locations:
