CONWAY – A Conway man and woman were arrested here May 2 on different charges in the same case.
According to information from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Kenny Melton stopped Justin Andrew Vaughan, 22, for speeding. During the stop Vaughan informed Melton that he was trying to get home to tend to his sick child. That prompted Deputy Melton to call Northampton EMS to meet them at the residence where the child was located.
Melton followed Vaughan to the residence to check on the child. After arriving at the residence, Melton noticed a smoking pipe on the front seat of the car Vaughan was driving. Melton detained Vaughan at that time.
A search was conducted on the vehicle and marijuana, smoking pipes and two BB guns were recovered from inside the car.
Melton charged Vaughan possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest. Vaughan was given a $2,000 bond and a June 5 court date.
During the incident, Brittany Flythe, 22, was also charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer. She was given a $500 bond and a June 5 court date.
Flythe’s charges stem from her interfering with Deputy Melton when he was arresting Vaughan.
Melton was assisted on the incident by NCSO Sgt. Antwone Johnson and NCSO Investigator Courtney Williams.
