Search yields drugs

AHOSKIE – Friday the 13th proved unlucky for an Ahoskie man.

Armed with a search warrant, law enforcement officials with the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office located drugs, cash, paraphernalia and a shotgun within a residence at105 Craft Street (B&B Mobile Home Park) here July 13.

Sheriff Juan Vaughan said as a result of that discovery, 27-year-old Jerred Devon Chism of the aforementioned address was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a dwelling to store a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Chism was placed under a $35,000 bond and made bail on Monday. His first court appearance was on Tuesday.

Vaughan said the search of Chism’s residence produced 6.1 grams of crack cocaine, found inside a pill bottle, $309.29 in cash, a set of digital scales and a Mossberg shotgun.

HCSO officers involved in the search and subsequent arrest were Investigators Dexter Hayes, Greg Harrison, Brian Pearce and John Joyner, Sgt. Leon Eason and Deputies Tom Helms and Chase Oliver.

“I would like to commend my officers for a job well done as we all continue in our efforts to slow down sale of illegal drugs in our county,” Vaughan stated.
