AHOSKIE — A local man is listed in serious condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville following a two-vehicle crash here early Saturday afternoon.

William Walter Harmon, 29, of Murfreesboro was seriously injured when the moped he was operating struck a van on the Ahoskie-Cofield Road.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said Harmon was traveling south at around 2:10 p.m. At the same time, a Ford van, operated by Joann Casper Harrell, 64, of Ahoskie, was traveling north.

“As the van was attempting to turn left onto Willoughby Road, the moped struck the van in the right side, near the sliding door of that vehicle,” Fitzhugh said. “The driver of the moped was ejected and thrown over the top of the van before coming to rest in the roadway.”

Harmon was transported by Hertford County EMS toVidantRoanoke-ChowanHospital and then airlifted by EastCare to Greenville.

APD Sgt. Justin Farmer charged Harrell with a safe movement violation.
