AHOSKIE – As the weather warms-up, so does the action on area golf courses.
As one of the major golfing events annually in the Roanoke-Chowan area, the Arthur Lee Wiggins Memorial Golf Tournament is growing in popularity, meaning the time is now to register before the field is full of golfers.
The eighth annual Wiggins Memorial, named in honor of the longtime Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce Director, is set for a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Friday, June 1 at Beechwood Country Club.
The entry fee is $250 per four-person team, which includes one mulligan and one tee buster per player. The field is limited to the first 24 teams to register. Registration ends May 25 or sooner once the field is full.
The tournament also features contests for closest to the pin and longest drive.
Prizes will be awarded to the first and second place teams (gross score and net score). The presentation of all awards will come during a gathering, featuring heavy hors d’oeuvres, following the tournament.
This fundraising event is not just limited to those who love to play golf. Businesses and/or individuals looking to contribute to the Ahoskie Chamber can sponsor a hole on the course. Hole sponsorships range from $25 to $50. The name of the sponsors will be placed on signs and prominently displayed on the course. This is a great way to let the golfers know that you support the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce.
Sponsors are urged to contact the Ahoskie Chamber at 332-2042 as soon as possible. They can also mail their donations and the information they want included on the sign to the Ahoskie Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 7, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
Golfers are reminded to come hungry. Prior to the 1 p.m. start, a make your own sandwich buffet lunch will be provided by the Chamber’s Women’s Division.
Golf participants can mail the names of their foursomes (complete with addresses and handicaps) to the aforementioned address. If the foursome has an official sponsor, the sponsor’s name, address and phone number are also required.
For additional information, contact the Chamber or call Dennis Everett at Beechwood Country Club at 332-2905.
Revenue generated by the tournament will assist the chamber in its continuing effort to better serve its members and to encourage the economic growth of the community.
