Car rear ends school bus

AHOSKIE – Fortunately no one was injured this morning (Thursday) in an accident involving a school bus and a car on Academy Street.

According to a report filed by Ahoskie Police Sgt. Stephen White, the Hertford County Public Schools bus, traveling south, was making a right hand turn off Academy Street onto Baker Street. At that time, the bus was struck in the rear by a 2000 Hyundai operated by Shwanda Savage of Ahoskie.

White’s report showed four students were on the bus, which was driven by Olivia Privott.

Hertford County EMS was summoned to the scene, but there was no report of anyone involved in the accident being transported to the local hospital.

Savage was charged with failure to reduce to speed to avoid accident.

Damage to the car was approximately $1,500. The bus suffered $200 in damage.

The accident occurred at 8:05 a.m. Hertford County Schools were on a one-hour delay Thursday morning due to fog.
