Ahoskie Heritage Day kicks-off Friday

AHOSKIE – A perfect weekend is in store here in more ways than one.

With all the wet weather that has plagued the area over recent weeks finally gone, a beautiful weekend is in store for Ahoskie. There, under the promise of blue skies and seasonable temperatures, the eighth annual Ahoskie Heritage Day celebration begins Friday afternoon and runs through Saturday night.

Admission and parking are free.

The following events are part of the annual Heritage Day (expect where noted, all events are at the Ahoskie Creek Recreational Complex):

Friday, September 9

6 p.m. – Opening Event, Concessions, Vendors and Crafts, DJ (Jay Jenkins)

6 p.m. – Welcoming – Amphitheater (Mayor Blackburn)

6-11 p.m. – Legends of the Past Custom Car Show

7-11 p.m. Pizazz Band – Amphitheater

Saturday, September 10

7 a.m. –  Backyard Pig Cooking contest begins

9 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Legends of the Past Custom Car Show

9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Heritage Day Art Show Fellowship Hall, St. Thomas Episcopal Church

10 a.m. – ViQuest 5K Run; begins at Town Hall area on Main Street

10 a.m. – Heritage Day Parade – begins at Southern Bank area on Main Street and ends at Ahoskie Creek Recreational Complex

12 noon – PAWS Yard Sale (Old Band Room on Main Street)

12 noon – 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament – 4 Man Teams – at south end of Lakeview Dr.

12 noon – DJ (Jay Jenkins)

12 noon – 4 p.m. – Katelyn Marks (former American Idol contestant)

12:00 noon – 3 p.m. – Historic Games & Demonstrations –

1-4 p.m. – PAWS Dog Show

1-3 p.m. – Horseshoe Tournament/2 Man Teams –

1-5 p.m. – Horse Drawn Equipment Demonstrations & Antique Tractor Demo

1-5 p.m. – Variety of Children’s Games – conducted by the Ahoskie Recreation Department

3-5 p.m. – Backyard Barbecue Pig Cook-off judging

7-11 p.m. – Band of Oz

9:15 p.m. – Fireworks

There will be exhibits, crafts, rides, concessions and food vendors throughout the day.
