MERRY HILL – Lawrence Academy opened the 2011 volleyball season with a straight-set win here Monday.

The Lady Warriors topped visiting Greenfield School 25-15, 25-20 and 25-20.

Giovanna Conigliaro led the way for the Lady Warriors with 12 points while Hayden Thompson added nine service points. Holly McNair had four aces and a total of seven service points while Emma Conigliaro had two aces and eight points. Chelsea Ginn added seven service points.

In the junior varsity contest, Lawrence beat Greenfield in three sets. After losing the first set 25-21, the Warriors bounced back to win by counts of 25-21 and 15-11.

Both teams improved to 1-0 for the season. The win was the first for new Head Volleyball Coach Shannon VanStaalduinen.

Lawrence will be back on the court Friday when the varsity squad travels to Community Christian for a 5 p.m. match.
