Warriors blank Currituck

BARCO – Lawrence Academy got its tennis season off to a good start here Wednesday.

The Lady Warriors knocked off Currituck County High school 9-0 in a varsity tennis outing.

Three of the Lawrence ladies got wins by perfect scores. Second-seeded Bailey Nelson knocked off Hanna Singlar 8-0 while fifth seeded Alyssa Byrum defeated Katie Tulowieck by the same score. Number six seed Margaret Nelson won by the same 8-0 count when she defeated Romesha Haynes.

In the battle of number one seed, Lawrence’s Hallie Corbett defeated Emily Fost by an 8-1 count.

Third seeded Sarah Cowand topped Sara Gottschalk and fourth seeded Brittany Lancaster beat Hayley Beickert by dual 8-2 scores.

In doubles action, Corbett and Nelson claimed an 8-1 win over Fost and Singlar while second ranked Cowand and Lancaster knocked off Gottschalk and Beickert by an 8-0 margin.

In the final match of the day, Byrum and Nelson claimed an 8-0 victory in the battle of number three doubles teams.

Lawrence improved to 1-0 with the victory. The Lady Warriors will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Northeast Academy.
