Race develops in Ahoskie

A race has developed for the Ahoskie Town Council as filing heads to its end later this week.

Incumbent Ward B Councilman Maurice Vann has filed to retain his seat on the board and will be challenged by Donald Kirkland, who ran an unsuccessful write-in campaign for mayor two years ago.

Ahoskie Mayor Linda Blackburn has also filed to seek reelection as has incumbent Ward A Councilwoman Elaine Myers.

Those wishing to file for the Ahoskie Town Council must do so before Friday’s 12 noon deadline. Those wishing to fill out a notice of candidacy can do so at the Hertford County Board of Elections office in Winton.

In Bertie County, two incumbents have filed for reelection to the Lewiston Woodville Board of Commissioners. Lewiston District Commissioner Chris Cordon  and Commissioner Carolyn Jernigan, who is the board’s at-large member, will also seek new terms.

Woodville District Commissioner Eddie Graham has not filed to seek reelection not has any newcomer filed in the district.

Lewiston Woodville residents wishing to run for municipal office also have until 12 noon on Friday. They must file with the Bertie County Board of Elections in Windsor.
