CONWAY — A much needed facility in Northampton County is looking to expand its services in order to serve more people.

On Monday, the Northampton County Board of Commissioners agreed to send a letter of support on behalf of Fresenius Medical Care (FMC), which operates the East Northampton Dialysis Facility in Conway.

According to County Manager Wayne Jenkins, FMC is in the process of filing an application to the state in order to add 10 more dialysis stations within the Conway facility. The center currently has approximately 14 to 16 stations.

“You have a letter of support that I drafted from the county in support of Fresenius Medical Care filing an application to the State Department of Health and Human Services for authorization to add on 10 new dialysis stations,” he said to the board.

The commissioners agreed with the need for the extra stations.

“They sure stay busy,” said Commission Vice Chair James Hester.

Jenkins said the manager of the facility has offered to give a tour to the commissioners.

“Where is the next nearest facility to the Conway facility,” asked Commissioner Robert Carter.

“Probably Ahoskie or Roanoke Rapids,” Jenkins responded. “There’s no other facility in the county that I’m aware of.”

Carter made a motion to send the letter of support to the state for FMC and Commissioner Chester Deloatch offered a second. The motion passed without objection.

The East Northampton Dialysis Center was previously located in Rich Square and was relocated to Conway.
