MILLENNIUM – A big investment by a local doctor was jeopardized near here last week.

Approximately $5,000 in damage was inflicted on the new office of Aulander Medical Practice (Dr. Simon Khoury), located at 114 Hollowell Road, off NC 11.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said his office received a call shortly before 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 16 to report the incident.

“Someone broke into the building and then caused damage to the interior and exterior,” Sheriff Vaughan said. “Paint was poured on the interior floors; holes were knocked into the sheetrock and paint was on the exterior brickwork.”

Hertford County Deputy Chase Oliver investigated, leading him to charge 17-year-old Devan Scott Brown of 113 Hollowell Road.

Brown was charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property. He was jailed under a $27,000 secured bond and remains incarcerated following his first court appearance on Tuesday.

Sheriff Vaughan commended Deputy Oliver for handling the investigation in an “expeditious manner.”
