Gallery issues casting call

AHOSKIE – Calling all actors!

The Gallery Theatre will conduct on stage auditions for its next production, “Once on This Island”  on January 4, 2011 at the historic theater located at 117 West Main Street, Ahoskie.

The auditions are scheduled from 6-7 p.m.

Taking place on a Caribbean island divided by social prejudice, “Once on This Island” is a calypso-flavored re-telling of the traditional “Little Mermaid” tale. Various gods control the peasants’ lives including the god of Love, (Erzulie) Earth (Asaka), Water (Agwe), and Death (Papa Ge). The show focuses on the effects social class divisions have on love.

Casting requirements include 17 plus company members for male and female leads, supporting and chorus members.  Vocal part ranges include soprano, mezzo soprano, tenor, baritone and bass/baritone. Age ranges for company members is 9-60 years.

All potential cast members should be prepared with a song of their choice to identify their vocal classification and will be asked to perform a “cold read” from a scene in “Once on This Island.”
