JACKSON – Northeast Academy grabbed an 8-1 win over Lawrence Academy to improve to 7-6 on the season.

The Lady Eagles’ tennis team secured five singles victories and three doubles’ wins to defeat Lawrence.

Third-seeded Ivey Little led the way for Northeast as she stopped McCaul Nelson by duel counts of 6-0. Sixth-seeded Allyson Leggett defeated Alyson Byrum of Lawrence by the same score.

Northeast number four seed Haley Jones scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sarah Cowand and fifth-seeded Taylor Cocke topped Brittany Lancaster 6-1 and 6-0.

The toughest match of the day was the battle of the two top seeds as Kaylon Rose of Northeast edged Lawrence’s Hallie Corbett by a count of 4-6, 7-5 and 10-8.

Lawrence’s Bailey Nelson got the only win for the Lady Warriors when she defeated Ashlyn Bridgers 6-1 and 6-4.

In doubles action, Rose and Jones defeated Corbett and B. Nelson 8-6 in number the top draw.  Northeast number two seeds Little and Cocke scored an 8-0 win over M. Nelson and Cowand and third-rated Bridgers and Leggett topped Lancaster and Byrum 8-2.
