Northampton makes semifinals

GATESVILLE – Northampton County High School – East will compete in the semifinals of the Tar-Roanoke Conference tournament here today (Thursday).

The Lady Rams’ volleyball team will meet Gates County High School at 3:30 p.m. following a four-set victory on Tuesday.

Northampton defeated KIPP Pride 23-25, 25-20, 25-6 and 25-21.

Senior Patrice Williams had six kills and two aces in the quarterfinal win while sophomores Bridget Lucas and Bianca Anderson added five kills each.

Alexus Shoulders chipped in a kill and four aces to boost the Rams’ attack.

Northampton now stands 12-9 overall this season.

That victory followed two regular-season wins to end the campaign.

In the regular season finale, the Rams also defeated KIPP Pride.

Playing without Williams and junior setter Cierra Heustess, the Rams got off to a slow start and lost the first game 25-17.

Senior Brittany Majette, however, led Northampton back thanks to her 11 kills and one ace, she helped the Rams roar back to win the next three sets by counts of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-15.

Anderson added five kills to the cause and senior Brandi Keeter had three aces.

One match earlier, the Lady Rams topped Southeast Halifax High School 22-25, 25-9, 25-21 and 25-20.

Anderson, Williams and Majette led the way with four, three and two kills respectively.

Junior setter Marendy Cannon set the pace with her serve, recording four aces and scoring 19 points, including a 10-point run in the second game.
