AHOSKIE – Law enforcement officials here are seeking the public’s assistance to help solve the robbery of a business.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said the Dollar Tree located in the Ahoskie Commons Shopping Center was robbed at around 8 p.m. Monday.

“An unidentified black male walked into the Dollar Tree where he allegedly displayed a note demanding money,” Fitzhugh said. “The suspect stated to the clerk he had a gun and to hand over the money. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency to the male. The suspect left the store.”

The clerk was not injured.

Fitzhugh said it was unclear at this time whether or not the suspect had a weapon in his possession.

“All I can say at this point is that the suspect stated in the note handed to the clerk that he had a weapon,” Fitzhugh said.

“(Ahoskie Police) Det. Sgt. Stephen White was called out to the scene. He checked with nearby stores and spoke with people in the immediate area,” Fitzhugh added.

According to information provided by the Ahoskie Police, the suspect is described as a dark skinned black male wearing a white toboggan. No other description is available at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact White at (252) 332-5012.
