AHOSKIE – Roanoke-Chowan Publications will again allow political candidates for local office to pass their message directly to its readers.

Beginning today (Tuesday), the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald and Gates County Index will accept political profiles from any candidate on the November ballot. Those submissions must be 500 words or less and must pertain only to the candidate’s platform. No attacks against other candidates or political parties will be printed.

“We received positive response from our readers and the candidates this spring when we allowed the candidates to have a forum before the May primary,” RCP Editor Cal Bryant said. “We feel it is only right to allow those on the November ballot the same opportunity.”

Candidates may submit their information between now and Oct. 9. Submission must be via email to cal.bryant@r-cnews.com and a photo should be sent as well. Profiles should contain information including the candidate’s biography, the office they are seeking, party affiliation if applicable, and the platform on which the candidate is running.

Important issues of the campaign may be covered, but no mention of opponents or parties will be allowed within the mention of those topics.

The deadline for submissions will be Tuesday, Oct. 9. All information must be received by midnight on that date.

“We intend to publish the political profiles during the two weeks leading up to the General Election,” Bryant said. “They will be in our print edition during the week of October 15 and October 22.”

The profiles will be published only once and will be subject to editing for the purposes of grammar correction and/or newspaper style.

If a candidate wishes to publish more information about their candidacy, they may do so via advertising both online at www.r-cnews.com or in the two newspapers. To learn more about advertising, contact Judy Farmer at 332-7217 or Tammy Perry at 332-7203.
