NEWPORT, NC – Mary Rose Myers Lassiter, 77, passed away surrounded by family on June 15, 2020 at her son’s home in Newport, NC.

She was married for 50 years to Marshall Edwin Lassiter. They made their home in Severn, NC.

She graduated from Selma High School in 1961. She remained in close contact wither her class and enjoyed the many reunions they had over the years. Mary was a member of Severn United Methodist Church. She fulfilled many roles over the years at the church, including writing, directing and producing the Christmas programs and doing crafts for Bible School. Mary was always the first to volunteer to help the youth group and other community activities.

Her love of people and serving the community led to a long career working in several departments at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. She was truly loved by all she worked with and served.

She was a founding member of the Severn Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary which helped fund the uniforms and equipment for the station. She was a member of the Severn’s Womans Club which faithfully supported the town youth with playground equipment. She was also a founding member of the Conway Severn Volunteer Rescue Squad that served the community for several years.

A memorial service is planned for July 11 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Severn UMC.

Mary is survived by her three children, Bryan Lassiter and his wife Christy, Becky Turner and her husband Sam Turner, and Vickie Stephenson and her husband Erik Reid; nine grandchildren, Barry Miller and his wife Ashley, Hannah Vidaver, Jennifer Lassiter, Evie Jenkins and her husband Nick, Jimmy Phelps, Sasha Stephenson, Michael Joyner Jr., Caylee Keller, and Chloe Keller; and great grandchildren, River Miller, Elijah Turner, Sawyer Miller, and Lucy Jenkins.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Edward and Lola Augustine Myers; brothers, Daniel Webster Myers, and Marvin Edward Myers Jr.; and sister-in-law, Doris Marie Mazingo Myers.
