Emily C. Horton

WINTON, NC – Emily Chappell Horton, 87, formerly of Winton, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Accordius Health & Rehabilitation, Gatesville.

Mrs. Horton was born in Gates County on November 21, 1930, and was the youngest of 13 children who lived to adulthood born to the late Caracus C. and Emma Frances Chappell. A homemaker and mother, she had worked at Dixon’s Laundry in Winton, and was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and its Women’s Missionary Society.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Woodrow Horton.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph Clayton Horton and wife, Leah, of Aulander; and Dennis Lee Horton and wife, Allison, of Snow Hill; three grandchildren, Kevin Horton and wife, Kimberly, Lauren Creech and husband, Daniel, and Brittany Laur and husband, Blake; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m. in Cool Spring Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Joe McKnight and the Rev. Roger Kiker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family in the social hall of the church immediately following the service.
