PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Betty M. Madeira, 81, passed away December 9, 2010 in Elizabeth City, NC.

A native of Sullivan, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Hazel Bolen. She retired from the Navy Exchange as Operational Manager after 20 years of service.

She is survived by her four children, Karen S. Wilcox of Charlottesville, VA, Charles C. Madeira IV and wife, Patti, of Geneva, IL, Fredric W. Madeira and wife, Sharon, of Elizabeth City, NC and Joyce M. Stidham Pearce and husband, Bennie, of Ahoskie, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Keri, Megin, Tonya, Michael, Nicole, Amanda, Chas, Kyle, Thomas, Ricky, Kevin, Derick and Elizabeth; thirteen great-grandchildren, Kayla, Alexa, Shannon, Olivia, Kelly, Michael, Halie, Kristen, Madison, Bella, Jaden, Connor and Elaina; and a sister, Joyce A. Shaffer of Chowan, NC.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2010 at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel. The burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
