Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We’re less than three weeks away from turning the calendar to another year.

But do you have a new calendar to flip through?

If the answer is no, then you’re in luck.

Inserted inside today’s edition is a 2023 calendar courtesy of Roanoke-Chowan Publications and local businesses. This marks the fourth consecutive year that we have published a calendar.

The calendar features photos taken by our local citizens. We received a combined 141 snapshots from 27 individuals. Those photos were of people, places and things within the Roanoke-Chowan area (Bertie, Gates, Hertford, and Northampton counties).

From those entries, the staff of Roanoke-Chowan Publications was faced with the tough task of narrowing those photos to what we deemed as the “best of the best.” There are 15 photos published in the calendar, to include the cover photo of a stunning sunrise over the Chowan River. That photo was taken by McKenzie Roberson, who earned the $250 cash reward for her work being chosen for the cover.

We thank those who took the time from their busy schedules to snap and submit these photos. You all are complimented on your photography skills.

As you flip through this calendar today and in the days and months to come, please take note of the advertisers. The next time you pay them a visit, offer a word of thanks for their efforts to help us bring you the 2023 calendar.

We hope this calendar brings with it numerous reasons to celebrate and enjoy a brand new year.

For additional copies of the calendar, which are free, stop by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald office located near the intersection of Main Street and Catherine Creek Road in downtown Ahoskie.
