Army promotes Ahoskie native

NORFOLK, VA – An Ahoskie native is rising in rank in the U.S. Army.

In February, Major Cayatra Miller was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. The ceremony, presided over by Colonel Brendan Taylor, was held at HQ NATO in Norfolk, VA.

Miller, a graduate of Hertford County High School, is the daughter of Diane Davis and Elliott and Carthinia Wright, all of Ahoskie.

Lt. Colonel Miller received her commission as an Adjutant General Officer through the ROTC program at East Carolina University in Greenville. She is a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, the Adjutant General Officer Basic Course, the Adjutant General Officer Advance Course, Basic Officer Leadership Course, and the United States Army Airborne School.

Previous assignments include positions at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where she served as the Brigade S1 for the 188th Infantry Combined Arms Training Brigade; at United States Army Central Command at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina as the G1 Chief of Policy and Programs to include Readiness; and at Fort Bliss, Texas as the Brigade S1 for the 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade; and Battalion S1 for the Special Troops and Brigade Support Battalions within the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division.

Additional assignments as an Adjutant General Officer include positions within XVIII ABN Corps G1 at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

Lt. Colonel Miller holds a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management from Webster University, and a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from East Carolina University.

Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), the Army Commendation Medal (4 awards), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (3 awards), the OEF and OIR Campaign Medals, the Parachutist Badge, and a Combat Action Badge.

Lt. Colonel Miller is married to Michael A. Miller Sr. and they have two children together (Braxton, 10, and Phoebe, 6).
