GARYSBURG – It’s a spectacle better witnessed than read about.

The Northampton Electric Automotive Technology Rally will be held at the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) near Garysburg on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

The “EV”ent is open to the public. Car enthusiasts and EV instructors are particularly invited to attend.

Demonstrations and non vehicle competitions are scheduled and open for all to participate.

If you are a school that participates in robotics, rc cars, or any other form of EVs, let Harold Miller know. Miller, former automotive teacher for Northampton County High School-East, co-founded the “EV”ent. He can be reached at millerd@northampton.k12.nc.us

Miller said the NEAT Rally will include a hands-on workshop and competition. It also serves as an opportunity among participants to share experiences within all EV forms.

Some new competitions planned for this year are designed to build teamwork skills and combine the various classes of vehicles.

Exciting events this year include Soaped Skid Pad Braking, Distance Competition, Soaped Slalom, Autocross, Range Time Trials, Pit Crew, Range & Troubleshooting Relay, and EV Technology Quiz Bowl.

Northampton County High School’s EV program started in the early 1990s and was one of the first of its kind in the nation. Over the years, the program has won many awards for excellence as well as the subject for a best selling book – “Electric Dreams.”
