GARYSBURG – A Pleasant Hill man was killed near here this morning (Wednesday) in a two-vehicle accident.

Sgt. A.S. Genao of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at 7:59 am on NC 186 approximately 2.3 miles east of Garysburg.

There, the accident report showed that Stanley A. Scott, 34, of Pleasant Hill was operating a 2018 Toyota eastbound on NC 186.

Meanwhile, a 1999 Kenworth tractor-trailer, owned by Whitehead Trucking & Farm Services of Pleasant Hill and driven by 73-year-old Larry W. Wilson of Conway, was westbound on NC 186.

Sgt. Genao said the Scott’s vehicle went left of the centerline, prompting Wilson to take evasive action by steering his rig to the right in an effort to avoid impact. However, Scott’s car struck the tractor-trailer head-on in the westbound lane.

Both vehicles were traveling at the posted speed limit (55 mph) just prior to impact, according to the accident report.

Scott was pronounced deceased at the scene by Northampton County EMS personnel.

Wilson was injured and transported by Northampton EMS to Vidant North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids. The extent of his injuries is unknown.

NCHP Trooper W.H. Wheeler investigated the accident.
