Peggy W. Lowe

MURFREESBORO – Peggy W. Lowe was born July 3, 1936 in Petersburg, VA to William Dovord and Mary Cheely Williams.

Peggy and her four siblings grew up in Petersburg and Carson, VA.  She graduated Bluefield Junior College and Westhampton College.  She attended seminary at Wake Forest where she met her husband, Benjamin Franklin Lowe, Jr. whom she loved for the rest of her life.

Following seminary they moved to Merrietta, GA where she taught elementary school before moving to Murfreesboro, NC in 1964. She continued her tenure as an educator for 30 additional years in the NC public school system. Peggy received her Masters Degree in education from East Carolina University.

After retiring she continued to tutor and teach with Sylvan. She served Murfreesboro Baptist for 50 years. She volunteered with the food bank, Jefcoat Museum, and enjoyed bowling. She led Bible School and taught Sunday School.

She is survived by her son, Gregg F. Lowe and his wife, Nannette Lowe of Greenville, NC; her daughter, Lori L. Lowe; her sister, Alwilda Sherrick of Carson, VA; and her brother, Channing Williams of Richmond, VA.

A service celebrating her life will be held on Jan. 21, 2015 at 2 pm at Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC. The family will receive visitors at 1 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Peggy’s name be made to the Jefcoat Museum or the Murfreesboro Food Pantry.
