GARYSBURG – A ransacked residence and a homeowner suffering from gunshot wounds are all the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office has to work with as they investigate an incident here on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 1).

According to NCSO Captain Chuck Hasty, deputies responded to an 8:56 p.m. call to a residence on Avent Lane in Garysburg about a person being shot. NCSO Lt. Jason Boone and Deputy Jeff Allen were the first to arrive at the scene, finding the victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.  The victim was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids and then airlifted from there to a Trauma Center for treatment.

NCSO Lt. Bo Deloatch was called to process the crime scene. He is currently heading the investigation.

Hasty said the victim’s residence appeared to have been ransacked and it’s unknown at this time if anything was taken from the residence.

“At this point in the investigation the Sheriff’s Office does not have any suspect or descriptions,” Hasty said.
