Lady Rams split pair

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School split a pair of recent outing on the tennis courts.
The Lady Rams dropped a 9-0 decision to Faith Christian School before rallying to knock off Hertford County High School 7-2.
Against the Lady Bears, Ridgecroft won five singles matches and a pair of doubles contests to claim the win.
The easiest win came at number six for the Lady Rams where Taylor Jenkins cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Breanna Parker. Fifth-seeded Rebecca Sykes also had a decisive win as she defeated Megan White 6-0 and 6-1.
Amber Bracy had an almost identical score in her victory over Claudia Rowe at number one. Bracy won 6-1, 6-0. Chloe Dunn won the battle of number two seeds, defeating HCHS’s Katie Pierce by a count of 6-0 and 6-2.
The final victory for Ridgecroft came at number four where Lauren Harrell edged Baylee Baugham by a final of 6-1 and 6-4.
Hertford County won the battle of the number three seeds when Carrie Blowe topped Holly Robertson 6-4, 4-6 and 12-10.
In doubles action, Bracy and Dunn combined to defeat Rowe and Pierce 8-2 in the number one battle. Robertson and Harrell defeated Blowe and White at number two by a count of 8-0.
The Lady Bears then won the number three doubles matchup when Angel Harmon and Dariel Harmon topped Claire Revelle and Rachel Bennett 8-4.
“It was a good win for us,” Ridgecroft coach Elton Winslow said.
Against Faith, the Lady Rams were shut out. The closest match was the number one doubles where Ashley Knight and Alex Cheney edged Amber Bracy and Chloe Dunn by a count of 9-7.
Overall, the Lady Rams stand 1-2 for the early season.
