MERRY HILL – A man injured near here last month in a shooting at a night club near here in August is recovering.

The person responsible, however, has not been charged, but not due to a lack of effort on the part of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

“We have been spending a lot of man-hours on this case, but nobody saw anything,” Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said. “We’ve interviewed a lot of witnesses, but all of them say they didn’t see anything.”

Holley said he had spoken with other sheriff’s who had found the same issues when there were shootings inside a club, such as The Phoenix, a nightclub located on U.S. 17 between Windsor and Midway where this incident occurred.

Holley said Det. Sgt. Ed Pittman and Det. Harris Williams were working the case tirelessly and following up on every lead.

“I have no doubt someone saw something,” Holley said. “We just need cooperation from those who know what happened.”

The sheriff said his office would continue working the case. He also encouraged those who were at the club or others who have information about what happened to call his office.

“We want information,” he said. “As always, it is not necessary to leave a name, just the information. We intend to solve this case and will continue to work it until that happens.”

Holley said anyone with information should call the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 794-5330. He said those wishing to provide information may also call him directly at 325-0260.
