RALEIGH– Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan’s significant contributions and over 10 consecutive years of dedication and service as sheriff to the State ofNorth Carolinaand the citizens ofHertfordCountyhave been recognized by the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association with a service award.

The Association’s president, Sheriff Tony Perry ofCamdenCounty, said of the 23 sheriffs statewide who received the award, “Sheriff’s play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the citizens ofNorth Carolina, and it is a great privilege to honor those who have served for 10 or more consecutive years in their communities.”

This is the first time in the history of the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association that a service award has been presented to members, and it is a symbol of the organization’s commitment to the sheriffs’ ofNorth Carolina.

Sheriff Vaughan started his Law Enforcement career in February 1981. On January 1, 1998, he was sworn in as Sheriff inHertfordCounty.

He married the former Gail Williams in 1981.  They have two children, Juanisha Hart, married to Calvin Hart, and Juan Vaughan, II.  He also has two grandsons, Jaylon and Kyle whom he enjoys dearly.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens ofHertfordCountyfor allowing me to serve them for more than 10 years,”Vaughansaid.
