LEWISTON – A 38-year-old Lewiston man died in a single-car accident here last week.

Curtis Malloy of Lewiston was traveling south on S.R. 1201 (Piney Woods Road) at approximately 10:50 p.m. Aug. 29, according to a report filed by N.C. Trooper A.S. Genao.

The report said Malloy was exceeding a safe speed when he entered a curve, over-corrected and ran off the road on the left side. The vehicle then overturned and struck a tree.

Trooper Genao said Malloy was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and the calculated speed of his vehicle was 76 miles per hour.

Malloy was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marks the third fatality on Bertie County roadways in 2011.
