AHOSKIE – Hertford County High School grabbed its fifth win of the season here Monday.
The Lady Bears dropped visiting Plymouth High School 44-25 for the non-conference victory.
Takia Williams led the HCHS offense with 13 points while Brandi Burden chipped in 10. Camaryn Jones had eight, Briante Bond contributed seven and Sherniece Futrell added six.
Kristy Gibson led Plymouth with six points.
The game was close as the second half opened, with Hertford County holding a slim 18-16 lead.
Bond, however, opened the third period with a three-pointer that was followed by a Burden hoop that made it 23-16.
Following a Gibson basket, Williams had back-to-back buckets and pushed the Hertford County lead to 27-18. They maintained that same nine-point edge (31-22) heading into the final quarter.
Once in the fourth period, however, it was all Bears.
Hertford County opened the quarter on an 11-0 spurt that ended with the Lady Bears leading 42-22.
Williams started the spurt with a triple and was followed by hoops from Futrell, Bond and Burden.
Desiree Chasson finally stopped the spurt with a hoop for Plymouth, but it was too little, too late as the Bears went on to secure the victory.
Hertford County (5-2) will be back in action Monday when they square off with Gates County in the opening round of the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald Holiday Classic sponsored by United Country Joe Murray Realty.
