BCSO probes break-in

POWELLSVILLE – An early-morning break-in Tuesday is under investigation by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Detective Sgt. Ed Pittman, a clerk from RGS #5 (formerly the Red Apple) contacted the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 6:15 a.m. Tuesday to report that break-in.

“The clerk went to the store and saw glass had been broken out of the front door,” Sgt. Pittman said.

Upon investigation, a list of missing items included $2,400 in cash, four cartons of Newport cigarettes and 14 cartons of Marlboro cigarettes as well as an unknown amount of beer.

“According to surveillance equipment, the break-in occurred at approximately 2:45 a.m.,” Det. Sgt. Pittman said.

The break-in remains under investigation and officers are asking for the help of anyone who may have information concerning the incident. Those with information are asked to call the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office at 794-5330.
