Gene P. Singletary

CAMDEN – Gene Page Singletary, age 82, of 129 Marlas Way, Camden, NC, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center.

Born in Robeson County, NC he was the son of the late Garland Mazie Singletary and Jessie Bell Blackmon Singletary, and the husband of the late Gabriella McDowell Singletary. He managed cold storage and peanut processing plants in Elizabethtown, NC, Wakefield, VA, Ahoskie, NC, Cordele, GA, and Aulander, NC for Columbian Peanut Company.

Mr. Singletary served in the US Coast Guard, was a member of Sawyer’s Creek Baptist Church, a member of the Lions Club of Camden, NC, and a member of the Albemarle Conservation and Wildlife Chapter.

He is survived by three daughters, Gabriella Hart Singletary of Charlottesville, VA, Cornelia McDowell Singletary of Rocky Mount, NC and Suzanne Singletary Newbern and husband Caroll of Colerain, NC; a son, Gene Page Singletary, Jr. and wife Cathy of Austin, TX; two brothers, Max Singletary and wife Maude of Elizabeth City, NC and Jerry Singletary and wife Julia of Raleigh, NC; and five grandchildren, Sally Burke Singletary, Emily Page Singletary, Lucelia May Singletary, Perry Gene Newbern and Matthew Louis Cutshall.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sawyer’s Creek Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Kevin Buzzard. The family will receive friends at the church following the service and at other times at the residence.
