WINTON – Hertford County has a new emergency and mass notification provider. The transition from DeltAlert to the industry-leading, high-speed mass notification system, CodeRED®, began earlier this year.
The transition to CodeRED will offer the Hertford County access to patented technologies that were not available with the previous provider. Public safety officials at Hertford County will be able to more effectively communicate time-sensitive messages using the CodeRED system’s robust dialing infrastructure that is entirely managed by its parent company, Emergency Communications Network. This access will allow calls to be delivered seconds after Hertford County officials launch a message. Additionally, the County will have the ability to better target notifications geographically, only notifying those community members impacted by an alert.
Hertford County residents who registered with DeltAlert have been transferred to the new CodeRED system, however all residents of Hertford County are encouraged to enroll contact information through the new CodeRED enrollment page. To ensure you are included in the new CodeRED database, please visit Hertford County’s website at http://www.hertfordcountync.gov/ and click on the CodeRED logo at the bottom of the page. Residents are encouraged to enroll cellphone numbers, email addresses and business contact information.

As a new notification feature, Hertford County citizens can access alerts from the CodeRED Mobile Alert app. The Mobile Alert app provides users geo-based public safety alerts that impact them at their current location. The app provides an additional method for Hertford County to communicate messages to not only local residents, but also to those traveling through the area.
“Once you download the free app, even if you travel to another CodeRED community, you will be notified of those alerts directly on your smartphone,” Smith said. “This is a really useful and unique feature that we are excited to begin using in the near future.”
