ELIZABETH CITY – Windsor’s Post 37 junior American Legion baseball team shook off the effects of their first-place loss to Ahoskie by rebounding with a 10-8 win over the Albemarle Wildcats of Post 84 at Pasquotank High baseball field in Elizabeth City.

Post 37 was led offensively by Dallas Belch who went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Patrick Castelloe with an RBI double. Tyler Baker chipped in with an RBI-single and a walk.

Alex Harmon picked up the win on the mound going five innings allowing five hits and five earned while Matthew Weaver picked up the six-out save to preserve Windsor’s sixth conference victory against three defeats.

Windsor got three runs in the top of the second inning. Dallas Belch, Conley Raines and Adam Cowand were all aboard via base-on-balls when Cody Elliott drew the third walk of the inning scoring Belch.

Raines and Cowand would both end up scoring on wild pitches to give Post 37 a 3-0 advantage.
Albemarle came back to tie the game at 3-3 before Windsor picked up the go-ahead run in the top of the third. Castelloe walked, stole second, reached third on Belch’s infield single and scored on a passed ball to give Post 37 a 4-3 edge.

In the top of the fourth the match was lit and Windsor’s bats ignited.  With Weaver and Harmon on the corners, Castelloe doubled to left field, scoring Weaver.  Harmon came home one batter later when Christian Bland singled.  Belch followed with the sixth hit of the inning, scoring Castelloe and Raines ended the scoring with an RBI to right field that made it 8-3.

After Albemarle got two more in their half of the fourth, Windsor got another run in the fifth when Elliott walked and later scored on Baker’s infield single, making it 9-5, Post 37.

Windsor got an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Bland reached second on an error and scored on Belch’s line drive to left scoring Post 37’s tenth run.

More adventure came in the bottom of the seventh; Post 84 cut it to 10-6 then loaded the bases with no one out off Weaver, who had replaced Harmon on the mound.

Despite scoring a run, a 1-4-3 double-play would quiet the comeback hopes momentarily before Albemarle got a two-out single to pull within 10-8.

With Drew Williams representing the tying run, Weaver caught him looking to end the game.

Windsor (9-3, 5-3, conference) played in Cary on Sunday and at Ahoskie Monday night at Hertford County High baseball field, but the game had not ended by press time.

Post 37 returns to Bertie High field tonight (Tuesday) for their third game with Ahoskie Post-102 in seven days.
