Rehabilitation work that begins soon on local bridges will force the closure of three roads, including a major north-south artery, over the next several months.

According to information provided by the NC Department of Transportation office in Ahoskie, work is scheduled for two bridges spanning the Ahoskie Creek in Hertford County while another is in southeastern Bertie County at Cricket Swamp.

On Wednesday, March 7, a section of NC 305 just south of Tri-County Airport in Hertford County will close to through traffic in order for work to be performed on a bridge. Motorists can detour around that work site by using NC 561 and SR 1118 (Pleasant Grove Road).

One day later (Thursday, March 8), a section of NC 11 will be closed south of NC 561 (near the Ahoskie Inn). The detour there will involve the use of SR 1108 (Bonners Bridge Road) and NC 42.

On Monday, March 12, a section of NC 45 north of Midway in Bertie County will close for bridge work. SR 1301 and SR 1365 can be used to detour around the work site.

All of the work involves the installment of a new concrete overlay on the deck surface of each bridge, which is expected to be completed by July 2.
