Ada Cox

SPRINGFIELD – Ada Lillian Blanchard Cox, 83, a native of Woodland, died May 9, 2005 at her home.

A funeral was conducted Friday at First Baptist Church of Springfield, 7300 Gary St., Springfield Va. Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 8 at 1 p.m. Friends are asked to assemble at Demaine Funeral Home at 12 noon to form the procession to Arlington.

Mrs. Cox graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in elementary education. She worked as a teacher. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield, where she served in many capacities including President of the Women’s Missionary Union.

Survivors include her husband, LTC Charles T. Cox of Springfield; two daughters, Laura J. Moats of Midland and Lillian V. Williams of Champaign, IL; one sister, Majorie Underwood of Woodland; one brother, Edward C. Blanchard of Fort Myer, FL; and five grandchildren.

Eunice M. Scott

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Eunice M. Scott, 89, a native of Sunbury, died May 7, 2005, in Beverly Manor of Portsmouth. She was the widow of Gooding Scott.

Survivors include a daughter, Irene Scott of Norfolk; a son, Leonard &uot;Buddy&uot; Scott of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Scott was a member of First Baptist Church, Elm Street, Portsmouth, where she was an honorary senior choir member.

A funeral was conducted Thursday in First Baptist Church Elm Avenue, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Gregory A. Thomas. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge. Condolences may be sent to www.corprewfuneralhome.com.

Robert Kearney

ROCKY MOUNT n Robert L. Kearney, 57, died May 7, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, by the Rev. Doris Lindsey.

Annie J. Burke

AIKEN, S.C. — Annie J. Burke, 93, a native of Hertford County, died May 11, 2005 at Pepperhill Nursing Home.

Survivors include her children, Beatrice B. McGhee of Aiken and Victoria Burke of Suitland, Md.; one sister, Alice J. Nickens of Winton; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Blanchards Grove Baptist Church, Hobbsville. Burial was in the Burke family cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Anna Fox

ROCKY MOUNT n Anna Fox, 82, died May 13, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

Spurgeon Long Jr.

ENFIELD n Spurgeon Long Jr., died May 12, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

George D. Bailey Sr.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – George D. Bailey Sr., 86, a native of Southampton County, Va., died May 11, 2005, at Maryview Medical Center. He was the widower of Chanie Hill Bailey.

Bailey retired as a laborer from Peck’s Iron and Metal Co. after 31 years of service. He was a former member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Como..

Survivors include eight daughters, Etta Mae Reid, Katie Jordan, Edna M. Everette, Rosa M. Jordan and Celestine Williams, all of Portsmouth, Margaret Wiggins and Mary Gatling, both of New York and Sylvia Parker, of Mapleton; a son, George D. Bailey Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va.; two sisters, Mary Beale of Portsmouth and Annie Beale of Murfreesboro; two brothers, Joseph Lee Beale of New York and James Beale Jr. of Murfreesboro; 35 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A funeral was conducted Monday in Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Como, by the Rev. James Riddick. Burial was in the church cemetery. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge. Kimberly Bryson

AHOSKIE – Kimberly Bryson, 13, of Ahoskie died Saturday, May 14, 2005.

She was a member of Higher Ground Assembly of God, Ahoskie.

She is survived by her mother, Robin Bryson of Ahoskie; her father, James Bryson of Gastonia; a brother, Johnathan Stephens of Gastonia; a sister, Salina Bryson of Hendersonville, and her grandparents, Glenda Rose and Jack Bryson.

A memorial service will be held from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at the Carpenter’s Shop Church, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Wallace Phillips officiating.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the church.

Reynolds Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is handling the arrangements.
