Harvey E. Brown

AHOSKIE n Harvey Edward "Buster" Brown, age 59, of Conway, NC, died June 13, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mr. Brown was born January 10, 1946 in Hertford County, NC, the son of the late Ernest Lee and Joyce Mulder Brown.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Brown.

Mr. Brown was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Ryan Brown; daughters, Dianna M. McClellan and Crystal D. McClellan, both of Conway, NC; sons, Harry E. McClellan of Woodstock, VA, and Harvey E. Brown, Jr. and Ted M. Brown, both of Askewville, NC; brother, Ernest Brown, Jr. of Columbus, GA, Johnny Brown of Ahoskie, NC and Robert Brown of Conway; sisters, Rachel Liverman of Conway, Joyce Cutler of Belhaven, NC and Shirley Brown of Greenville, NC; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services were held, Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 2 pm. At Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. David Ross officiating.

The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Tuesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

Jimmy Mitchell

MERRY HILL n Jimmy Butterton Mitchell, 71, a native of Bertie County, died June 13, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A graveside service was conducted Wednesday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Bryant. Memorial gifts may be given to Bertie County Relay for Life, or Merry Hill Baptist Church. Walker Funeral Home was in charge.

Mitchell was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

He is survived by his sister, May Mitchell Bunch of Merry Hill.

Raymond Barnes Sr.

HALIFAX n Raymond Barnes Sr., 58, died June 14, 2005 at Tarboro Nursing Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Mamie L. Perry

COLERAIN n Mamie Lois Perry, died June 11, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain, by the Rev. Nathaniel Thompson. Burial will be in the Perry family cemetery. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, William "Lil Jack" Perry of Colerain; two sons, Maurice Leon Perry of Plymouth and Rudy Wendell Perry of Conway; one daughter, Belinda Perry Williams of Knightdale; six brothers, John Thomas Perry, Clarence Perry, Ellis Perry Jr., Melvin Perry, Alfred Perry and Leroy Rankins; three sisters, Bessie Bell, Dorothy Douglas and Barbara Jean Perry; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Newbern

Mary Beth Hughes Newbern, 63, a native of Hampton, Va., died June 10, 2005, at Virginia Baptist Hospital.

Mrs. Newbern was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church and the Jefferson Woman's Club.

Survivors include her husband, John E. Newbern Sr.; a son, John E. Newbern, Jr. of Newport, N.C.; a daughter, Beth N. Warren of Bedford; a brother, Duncan P. Hughes Jr. of Colerain; and one grandson.

A funeral service was conducted Sunday at Mountain View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. R.A. (Dick) Daily. Interment followed in Virginia Memorial Park.

John O. Everette

RESTON, Va. n John Olie Everette, 74, a native of Hertford County, died June 13, 2005 at Reston Hospital Center, Reston.

Survivors include children, John E. Everette of Stafford, Daniel Everette of Dumfries, Janet Thompson of Burlington and Alice Everette Cooper of Darnestown, Md.; two sisters, Odell Beale of Murfreesboro and Alice Parker of Murfreesboro; one brother, Roger Everette of Conway; and nine grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, by the Rev. Joseph Smith. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

James H. Rountree Sr.

HOBBSVILLE – James Holland &uot;Jimmy&uot; Rountree Sr., 48, a native of Hertford County, died June 14, 2005, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Rountree was a self-employed tree service operator, he was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church and its Adult Choir. Elected to the Gates County Board of Education in 1998, he was presently serving as its chairman.

Survivors include his wife, Lynne Jordan Rountree; his daughter, Margaret Diane Rountree; sons, James H. Rountree Jr. and Joseph Britten Rountree, all of the home; a sister, Nancy R. &uot;Becky&uot; Bunch of Murfreesboro; and brothers, S.R. Rountree III of Fuquay-Varina and William Rountree of Gatesville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Asbill. Burial will be in Oak Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Folly Road, Sunbury. Miller Funeral Home is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Gatesville Baptist Church or the Gates County Rescue Squad.

Betty Warren

SMITHFIELD, Va. –

Betty Warren, a native of Como, died June 12, 2005.

A homegoing service will be conducted Thursday at Shivers Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.

Beatrice Lee

BROOKLYN, N.Y. n Beatrice "Bee" Lee, 66, a native of Bertie County, died June 12, 2005 at Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Wilder's Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander, by the Rev. Stevie Lawrence. Burial will be in Weeping Mary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lewiston.

She was a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Angela Lee of Lewiston; brothers, Willie McCoy Lee and Winston Lee, both of Lewiston; and sisters, Georgia Lee of Aulander, Rosie Lee of Windsor, Ruth Margaret Lee and Annie Mae Lee, both of Lewiston.

Willie Miller

BROOKLYN, N.Y. n Willie Miller, 73, a native of Winston-Salem, died June 10, 2005 at Methodist Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Grant's Family Cemetery, Conway. Hunter's Funeral Home, Inc., Murfreesboro, is in charge.

Miller was a computer engineer for IBM.

Survivors include his wife, Almeda Miller of Brooklyn; two sons, Michael Miller and Cedric Miller, both of Brooklyn; one daughter, Angela Evans of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Billy Miller of Pfafftown; three sisters, Rachell Penn of Brooklyn, Naomi Crawford and Mary Grimes, both of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Archie Bond Sr.

KELFORD n Archie Bond Sr., died June 14, 2005.

Howard J. Jordan

MERRY HILL n Howard Junious Jordan, died June 12, 2005 at Brian Center, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday at Oxley Hill Baptist Church, Merry Hill, by the Rev. Vonner G. Horton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Hester Louise Jordan of Merry Hill; a son, Johnny Jordan; a stepson, James Lee Cofield of Merry Hill; four brothers, James Jordan of Long Island, NY, Hubert Jordan of Boston, Mass., Ernest Jordan of Brooklyn, Leon Holley of Gates; six sisters, Evelyn Walker of Atlanta, Ga., Edith Mourning, Ella Miller and Gladys Parker, all of Edenton, Carolyn Ann Jordan of Winston-Salem, Shirley Ruth Leary of Edenton; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Bernard Melton

PORTSMOUTH, Va. n Bernard Melton, died June 14, 2005 in Williamsburg.
